Portrait, CPOMT (Chief Petty Officer Marine Technician) Shayne Eades.
Informal portrait of Chief Petty Officer Marine Technician (CPOMT) Shayne Eades, HMAS Toowoomba, at Al Basrah Oil Terminal (ABOT), taken during maintenance work on ABOT’s fresh water system. This marine-loading offshore crude oil terminal lies in a strategically critical position approximately 50 km southeast of the Al-Faw Peninsula in the Persian Gulf.
CPOMT Shayne Eades was posted to HMAS Toowoomba on 24 August 2006 as CPO Marine Technician. His role was to be in charge of maintaining refrigeration units, air-conditioning units, cooling water pumps for the engine rooms, galley equipment including ovens, fry pans and deep fat fryers. He was also second in command for refuelling the ship while at sea with Coalition vessels. The grey combat coveralls he wears in this photograph are held in the Memorial's collection (REL37708).
