Photograph album containing the internment of 406413 Sergeant Ernest Victor Stephens and J/15450 Pilot Officer William Mortimer Richards (RCAF)
Photograph album sent to the family of 406413 Sergeant (Sgt) Ernest Victor Stephens, from the Mayor of Charleroi, Belgium. The album contains 10 photographs of the ceremony held by the city of Charleroi, in which Sergeant Stephen's body was interred in their cemetery. Included is a certificate of authenticity and detailed notes on the ceremony procession.
Sgt Stephens was a crew member of Wellington bomber W5618 which crashed in Moustier sur Sambre, Belgium, on 2 June 1942. Sgt Stephens, and another three of the crew, were killed in action. He was 26 years of age.
Within the album, the location of J/15450 Pilot Officer William Mortimer Richards (RCAF) internment is also identified. The other crew being interned are noted as being unidentified, however they are likely the graves of R/76714 Flight Sergeant Frederick Bruce Albright (RCAF) and 407601 Sergeant Rex Theodore Burt who also died in the same accident.
