Collection relating to the service of 1512, 1578, VX55289, V7592, V24239 Major (Maj) Charles James (Nobby) Clarke MM DCM, 14th Battalion. Maj Clarke served in the First World War Army in the 14th Battalion. He was awarded the Military Medal in 1916 for repairing telephone lines under heavy fire. In 1918, he recieved the DCM for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He served in the Second World War with the rank of Major, undertaking AIF training and admin duties until 1942.
The collection includes a number of First World War and Second World War images taken in Australia and overseas, including group portraits of the No 1 Troop B Squadron, 20th Light Horse Regiment, a foot race being run with WW2 soldiers looking on, posed group portraits from newspaper archives, and a large number of First World War era studio portraits, including of women and children, many of which have been inscribed to Maj Clarke on the back. The collection also includes a small number of informally posed portraits of women, and an image of a procession through an unidentified Eropean village.
