Joined Qantas 1956 as an Engineer; started flying in 1963, still flying in 1991; first trip to Vietnam late 1966 early 1967 with Ron "Torchy" Uren and Neville Harang; Flights to Vietnam with Australian troops done with great secrecy in the beginning; initially Qantas staff involved on voluntary basis, later on a rostered basis; later flights more low key; Qantas Pilot Stu Archbold; atmosphere on board subdued on flights to Vietnam, joyous on flights back to Australia; night life in Manila during stopovers; views on conscription, regular soldiers should see service before conscripts are called upon.
