Description
Studio portrait of 2832 Private (Pte) Robert Errick Keillor, 6th Reinforcements, 41st Battalion. A selector of Caboolture, Queensland, Pte Keillor embarked from Sydney on the HMAT Demothesnes 22 December 1916.In July 1917, the 41st Battalion was stationed at Warneton, Belgium. On 31 July 1917, Pte Keillor and Corporal Barney William Rickwood were returning from a night time patrol when they passed a soldier who was carrying a bag of explosives. A bomb fell out of the bag and exploded killing Pte Keillor. Lance Corporal Alfred Edwin Eccles witnessed the scene, noting that Pte Keillor “was blown right out of the trench, being practically killed instantaneously.”
