Description

Tatiana (Tess) Kloot (nee Bulatova) interviewed by Alison Viney Houghton for her "The Age of Innocence 1937-1947" oral history project. The interview covers subjects related to Tess's experiences as a young person around Melbourne during the Second World War, such as; the migration of her doctor parents from Russia after the First World War and their transition to poultry farming; her father's desertion from the Russian Army; life in suburban and country Victoria; rations and shortages; her work as a fountain pen repairer; not being allowed to join the AWAS; her dislike of dances; air-raid shelters; fears of Japanese invasion; blackouts; the war service of her later husband; VJ Day; her love of Russian culture; working as a married woman; her ornithology.
