Description

Victor George Marks, Merchant Navy ('Triadic'), and Jean Marks (nee Cowie) interviewed by Alison Viney Houghton for her "The Age of Innocence 1937-1947" oral history project. The interview covers topics related to their experiences as young people living through the Second World War. Victor Marks was a junior engineer aboard the British Phosphate Commissioner's ship "Triadic", which was sunk by a German raider in December 1940. He was transported to France and became a prisoner of war in Germany for four years. Jean Cowie grew up in London, England, during the war and came to Australia in 1946. The pair met in London and married in Adelaide.
