Group portrait with L for Love aircraft, including 420032 Warrant Officer Alexander Edward McGee
Description
Outdoor group portrait of flying crew in front of their aircraft, nicknamed "L for Love". The aircraft features distinctive nose art of 'Lily of the lamplight' and titled "Tommo's mob on ops again". The nose art shows the aircraft has flown 45 missions at the time the photograph was taken. Identified in the picture is 420032 Warrant Officer Alexander Edward McGee,(lost on operations over the Mediteranean on 08 April, 1944) in the centre of the back row. A note on the back (to WO McGee's sister Pat Doolan) reads: "This is how a crew looks when it finishes a tour, Pat. The kite, L-LOVE, is very appropriately decorated with the Good Guts on all and sundry. Lilly of the Lamplight has been our theme song".
