AWM82 2/258 - [Captured Japanese Documents:] Authorities of Camp Commanders [File in Japanese]
This item consists of two copies of the document titled "Authority of Camp Commanders". Major issues discussed include the authority delegated to Camp Commanders and the nature and duties of the Japanese forces in Rabaul after surrender. Although the internal command structure of the South East Area Army was unchanged, the main duties of the Army were redefined as the maintenance of dignity of Japanese people and Imperial Forces, the assurance of servicemen's health and welfare, and the provision of education and training for servicemen. The document details the authority of Camp Commanders in matters such as education and training, formation of camps and repatriation, personnel affairs, evaluation and remuneration, discipline and order, reward and punishment, legal affairs and hygiene matters.
