Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of WX3306, Lieutenant-Colonel Eileen Veronica Joubert (nee Kenny), 2/11 Australian General Hospital (Middle East), Australia, 1944-1946.

Collection consists of four documents concerning the award of the Royal Red Cross (First Class) to Lt-Col Joubert. These include: a letter dated 8 January, 1944, informing Lt-Col Joubert (then Matron Kenny) of her being awarded the Royal Red Cross, signed by Field Marshall Sir Thomas Blamey; a typed citation describing the actions of Lt-Col Joubert which resulted in the awarding of the decoration; a shorter letter, written on Governor-General letter head and watermarked paper, describing the actions leading to her decoration; and a letter from Squadron Leader Preston Williams writing on behalf of the Governor-General and his wife to express their sadness regarding Lt-Col Joubert's absence at her investiture ceremony. The remaining three documents within the collection include: a letter signed by Field Marshall Sir Thomas Blamey wishing Lt-Col Joubert good luck in her future pursuits following the War; one certificate of discharge dated 4 December 1945; and one letter from the Records Officer, Army Headquarters describing the medals that Lt-Col Joubert is entitled to.
