Commando [portrait of Sgt R. N. Splatt]
Description
V281550 Warrant Officer Class 2 Max Rupert Angus AM, FRSA, was an Australian painter, best known for his watercolour paintings of Tasmanian landscapes. Born in Hobart, Tasmania in 1914, he enlisted in the Australian Army in 1942. During the war, he worked as the head of the map drafting room in the intelleigence department and was promoted to warrant officer class II. He was lead for the commandos unit where the subject of the drawing, Ray Splatt, was engaged. Angus was discharged in 1945, and before returning to Hobart, lead art classes for his Commando unit as a form of art therary.
