Portrait of David William Arthur
Description
Studio portrait of 66172 Private (Pte) David William Arthur, 57th Battalion, of Peak Hill, NSW. The only child of John and Ellen Arthur, Pte Arthur embarked on HMAT Zealandia, from Melbourne on 5 October 1918. He disembarked in England on 5 December, the armistice having been declared during his journey. Following training with the 14th Training Battalion, he arrived in France with the 57th Battalion on the 26 January 1919. Within three days, he was hospitalised at the 20th Casualty Clearing Station with influenza. Pte David William Arthur died of pneumonia on the 18th of February, 1919, four days after his 23rd birthday.
