Collection relating to the Second World War service of 21566 Able Seaman Harold Charles Koy, HMAS Parramatta, Royal Australian Navy, Mediterranean, 1940.
Able Seaman Koy enlisted to the Royal Australian Navy on 26 July 1937, when he was 16 years old. He served in HMAS Cerberus and HMAS Sydney before transferring to HMAS Parramatta in January 1940. On 27 November 1941, Able Seaman Koy was killed in action after the HMAS Parramatta was torpedoed by a German submarine and sunk. He is commemorated at the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Devon, United Kingdom.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Collection consists of one four-page letter from Able Seaman Koy to his family, written from the Mediterranean Sea, dated 22 September 1940. In his letter, Able Seaman Koy writes about receiving mail from home, censorship, the HMAS Sydney’s victory at the Battle of Cape Spada in July 1940, and their convoy being bombed by enemy aircraft.
