Description

An Australian First world War poster issued by the Department of Defence outlining regulations governing the sale and collection of Kerosene, turpentine and petrol tins and cases. Passed in 1914 the War Precautions Act gave the Commonwealth government authority to make laws about anything that directly affected the war effort. Due to the shortage of tin-plate for the manufacturing of containers for essential items to send to the troops etc. the government prohibited the sale of such items except to those licensed under the Department of Defence. It also encouraged people to hand in any tins or cases to their Station Master where they would be reimbursed according to prices fixed under the War Precautions Prices regulations. Poster contains text only in black and white.
