Description

Group portrait of prisoners of war (POW) held in Turkey all holding a number. Except for one Australian (No 17) the rest of the group are believed to be French POWs. Most of those named are members of the crew of the French submarine, Turquoise capture in the Sea of Marmara in 1915. Identified in the back row holding number 17 is 888 Private (Pte) George Ernest Kerr, 14th Battalion AIF (captured at Gallipoli in August 1915); (16) Pelegrin; (15) Alazet; (14) Bonnet; (13) Pastor; and (12) Gondart.
In the front row from left to right (9) Larrouy; (8) Petty Officer Le Bon; (7) Azema; (6) Maubourget; (5) Mouchet; and (4) Bardin. The remainder are unknown.
