Description
Studio portrait of Elizabeth ‘Bessie’ Mary Eames, from Rylstone NSW, aged 6 or 7. Bessie participated in the 'Adopt a Soldier' scheme in 1917 during the First World War. The program linked school children with a serviceman from their local area for correspondence. Bessie corresponded with 3343A Private Robert McGowan, 36th Battalion AIF, until his death on 12 October 1917 in Belgium.
