Studio portrait of 373 Lieutenant Albert Dowding, 34th Australian Infantry Battalion. A clerk prior to enlisting on 21 September 1914, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ulysses (A38) on 22 December 1914. Lieutenant Dowding was wounded in action at Villers-Bretonneux on 30 May 1918, and died 7 days later, on 5 June, at the 5th Casualty Clearing Station. He was 35 years old.
