Collection of cigarette papers: Ron Pilkington, British Army
Description
Collection of 29 colourful cigarette paper packets and papers of various brands. Two have manufacture dates of 1940 and 1941.
History / Summary
These cigarette packets and papers were kept in a tin by British soldier, Ron Pilkington, a prisoner of war in Changi. The tin is a souvenir of an amusement park called 'The Great World' in Singapore. In March 1942 it became the site of a camp for Australians and British prisoners and housed around 1500 prisoners of war.
