Description
Photograph album of 24 pages (including inside covers) containing 84 photographs connected to Lieutenant Ja (?) Baird Thompson (possibly 447 J B Thompson). The images are primarily commercially produced, with short captions and cover the Boer War. Topics include an armoured train named “Hairy Mary”, cricket, transportation/travel, battlefields, training, preparation of a Christmas dinner and graveyards. Includes one official photograph of Lieutenant-General William Birdwood, during the evacuation of Sulva in the First World War. Two newspaper articles are pasted to the back cover: "Returns of the Army" (list of returning soldiers and the transportation used) and "The War Memorial at Chelmsford".
