Description

Collection of images related to the service of NX266 Lieutenant (Lt) Ursula Mary 'Goldie Golden, 2/1 Australian General Hospital. Prior to enlisting on 18 December 1939, Lt Goldie had worked as a Staff Nurse at the Prince of Wales Repatriation General Hospital. Her brothers, 3149A Private Phillip Golden and 1433 Private Thomas Golden, had served in the First World War. In an article in The Sun, she described feeling that "she would be following their footsteps to the next war".

Lt Golden and NX6662 Bombardier (Bdr) Robert Edward Alan 'Bob' Gray, who knew each other as teenagers in Sydney, were reunited in the Middle East during the Second World War. They were married in Jerusalem on 14 February 1941. Lt Golden returned to Australia on 15 April 1942.
