Description
Somalia. 1993-03-26. Snipers from 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR), preparing to go on an early morning field exercise. Corporal Loftus (left) with camouflage face makeup is helping another sniper by adjusting his long headgear made of natural materials such as hessian and cloth strips. This is part of what is known as a Yowi suit. Note the gloves with only the index finger cut out. The men are serving with the Australian contingent to the Unified Task Force in Somalia (UNITAF).
