Merauke, West New Guinea, 1962-11/12. Three pilots from No. 16 Army Light Aircraft Squadron attached to the United Nations Temporary Executive Authority (UNTEA) raising the United Nations flag at the Merauke airport. A detachment of two Bell 47 helicopters, A1-672 and A1-721, was provided by the Australian Government at the request of the United Nations to assist with relief operations during a cholera epidemic in West New Guinea. Left to right: Captain R. Knight; Captain D. Chinn, Detachment Commander; Second Lieutenant J. Campbell. Absent is the fourth pilot, Captain N. Hansen, who took this photograph.
