Schrader, Kathleen (Displaced Person, b.1889)
Collection relating to the Second World War and immediate post-war experiences of Kathleen Schrader, displaced person (refugee), Germany, 1946.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of a letter Schrader wrote to a family friend [an Australian resident serving with the Thirteenth United States Army in Europe] on 26 November 1946 from Lubeck, in the British occupation zone of Germany. Schrader's letter is an appeal for assistance. She writes that she was born in Australia to British parents and, until 1939, was living in Tanganyika in British East Africa with her German-born husband and their children. She was in Europe for a medical procedure when the Second World War broke out in 1939 and the family was forced to live in Berlin and later Austria for the duration of the conflict. Schrader asks if there are any assistance funds she could apply for since the family is doing poorly and they wish to return to British East Africa.
