Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of 133761 Leading Aircraftman Edward Vincent Bond Clancy, No. 79 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force, Admiralty Islands, New Guinea, c.1944.

Collection consists of one five-page letter from 133761 Leading Aircraftman Clancy to his daughter Lorraine, dated 4 June c.1944. In his letter, Clancy describes the island he is stationed on in the Admiralty Islands group. He mentions details of the coconut plantation and jungle landscapes, interactions with the local population, and the local people assisting with the control of mosquitos and sickness. He also describes the wildlife seen in his vicinity, including birds, crocodiles, snakes, fish, lizards and flies, the nearby beach, the roads, the theatre in which they viewed films and put on concerts, and their clean water supply.
