Studio portrait of 4 people including 2574 Private (Pte) Sylvester Francis Burrows, 3rd Australian Infantry Battalion, and his wife Mary Jane Burrows. Pte Burrows had served in the military prior to the First World War, having spent 6 years in the 3rd Welsh Regiment, including active service in the Boer War. He had relocated to Australia and was working as an engine driver in Mittagong, NSW, prior to enlisting on 19 July 1915. He embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Euripides (A14) on 2 November 1915. Pte Burrows was killed in action in France, on 5 November 1916. He was 35 years old.
