The local boys ask for "cigarette for Poppa" from RAAF aircrew of Mitchell No. 180 Squadron RAF. Left to right: 418256 Pilot Officer V. C. Davis, of Ararat, Vic. Flying Officer J. Lovelock, of Hendon, England, RAF; 414381 Flight Lieutenant E. W. Bateson, of Toowoomba, Qld. Bateson's crew had to parachute to safety on the last trip of their tour. Mess of their squadron is situated in a Belgian village and the airmen have made great friends with the children.
