Over the right breast is printed an Australian National Flag with 'INVICTUS GAMES/ SYDNEY 2018' printed over the left breast. The sleeves are printed with the logos of official supporters. On the right sleeve is 'JAGUAR' and the 'Returned Services League Australia'. On the left sleeve is 'LAND ROVER' and 'AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE'. The back of the shirt is printed with 'AUSTRALIA' in gold and the Southern Cross in green.
This shirt was worn by Warrant Officer Class Two Graham Bell during the 2018 Invictus Games held in Sydney, Australia. Bell competed in archery (the male open recurve category) against 24 shooters where he placed eleventh after the first round and eliminated by a Polish competitor in the following knockout round.
After initially taken up archery in the 1970's Bell rediscovered it in 2016 after competing in the Wounded Warriors games trials. In 2018 Bell was invited to compete at the Marine Corps Trials in North Carolina where he won gold for Australia before being selected to represent Australia in the Sydney Invictus Games. At 58 Bell was Australia's oldest competitor.
Bell sustained leg and arm injuries when he was hit by a car and had major heart surgery, including replacement of an aortic valve. He also suffered from a spinal disc protrusion, due to operational service and a major depressive disorder due to being severely injured. Archery helped play a significant role in Bell’s rehabilitation encouraging him to focus on what he could do rather than dwell on what he could no longer do.
Graham Bell enlisted in the Australian Army Reserve on 2 August 1977 with the Royal Australian Infantry Corps, 2nd Battalion Royal New South Wales Regiment. Posted as a rifleman Bell rose through the ranks to become a section commander. Transferring to the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 June 1983 with the 1st/15th Royal New South Wales Lancers Bell served as an assault troop section commander, crew commander and troop sergeant.
On 17 March 1997 WO2 Bell transferred to the 12th/16th Hunter River Lancers where he held various positions including B Squadron technical warrant officer and troop leader before transferring to the 8th Combat Services Support Battalion His operational service included Operation Deluge (2007), Operation Testament (2008), Operation Resolute (2008), role and Operation Anode (2009) where he deployed in the Civil Military Liaison role.
