Diary of Ronald Alfred Harper, 1942-1943
Diary relating to the Second World War service of NX56201 Private Ronald Alfred Harper 2/29th Australian Infantry Battalion. This diary was kept by Harper in a Commonwealth Military Forces wallet during his time as a prisoner of war in Changi. It has entries written between 1 September 1942 and 29 April 1943 and was thrown away when Harper was being moved to Thailand as part of H force. The diary has short entries, many of which are written in Morse code and mention: the incident at Selarang Barracks; having to sign a pledge not to escape; translation/key of for the Morse code used; names and addresses and activities and conditions in camp. Also included at the back of the diary is a notice regarding the death of Harper in Thailand and a photograph of Kanchanaburi War Cemetery.
