Wallet 1 of 1 - Correspondence relating to Harold Claude Reinmuth, 1915-1917
Correspondence relating to the First World War service of 2747 Private Harold Claude Reinmuth, 15th Infantry Battalion, October 1915 - February 1917.
This file primarily contains letters from Reinmuth to his sister Elsie penned at various training camps in Egypt including Claremont and Lueton Camps during 1915, and Ismailia, Moascar and Serapeum Camps during 1916. His early letters reflect excitement at seeing new places and his optimism of returning to Australia by Christmas 1916. In contrast, subsequent letters are more sombre in tone, and contain references to conscription and volunteering for service as well as personal reflections on his wartime experiences. He writes his last letter in February 1917 whilst convalescing at York in England after suffering a gunshot wound in France. Reinmuth was repatriated to Australia in May 1917. The collection also contains two postcards.
