Description
Diary relating to the Second World War service of NX52458 Roy Clifford Mudiman, 2/20th Infantry Battalion. This diary written between 7 December 1941 and 7 February 1945 mentions: the invasion of Singapore by the Japanese; despite having weapons being unable to uses the, as the ammunition had gotten wet; his time on Blakang Mati island; the trip from Singapore to Thailand in March 1943 as part of D force; the problem of cholera in the camp; work at Hellfire pass; the conditions of men working on the railway including how many required amputation after infection; his bouts of malaria; the rest period in February 1944 and being bombed by allied forces.
