Description
Collection relating to the service of R58711 / 058711 Lieutenant Commander Robert John Sykes, HMAS Melbourne (1955-1982), 1964, 2008.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of a short, typed letter Sykes wrote to his son in 2008 regarding Sykes' memory of the collision between HMAS Melbourne (1955-1982) and HMAS Voyager (1957-1964) in February 1964. Sykes, a young mechanician at the time of the collision, recalls the fear he felt when the ships collided and the calming effect Chief Petty Officer John Way had on the sailors.
