Collection of 63 photographs relating to 131/1457/N272662 Second Lieutenant Mervyn Harold 'Laddie' (or 'Lad') Cummings MM, No. 5 Training Squadron, Australian Flying Corps.Second Lieutenant Mervyn Harold 'Laddie' Cummings was the oldest of the three brothers. He originally enlisted in the Army and saw service on the Western Front being awarded a Military Medal for his actions there. He transferred to the Australian Flying Corps and flew with No. 5 Training Squadron. He returned to Australia in 1920 and went on to pursue a career in aviation. On 25 June 1941 he enlisted with the Australian Army and was discharged on 22 July 1948.
Photographs in the collection primarily focus on the First World War including images of; aircraft (including wreckages), group photographs (mostly without captioning) and recreational activities. Of note is E1804 (An Avro Aircraft used by the No. 5 Squadron, AFC), an ambulance covered in wreathes for Anzac Day and a group of unnamed Tasmanians playing tennis at Palace Hotel Heliopolis. There is a number of images which include Second Lieutenant Cummings.
