Wallet 1 of 1 - Postcards from Robert McGowan to Elizabeth Mary Eames, 1917
Description
Eight original postcards sent to Miss Elizabeth Mary Eames (known as Bessie), as a 6 or 7 year old child living at Rylstone NSW, as part of an 'adopt a soldier' scheme in 1917 during the First World War. Seven of the postcards were written by 3443A Private (Pte) Robert McGowan, 36th Battalion AIF, who was killed in action in Belgium on 12 October 1917. The eighth postcard was sent by 'Ellis', whose identity is not known.
