Description

"Desert south of Kandahar Airfield (KAF) from an altitude (6000') I don't wish to see too often". Footage captured by Captain Jason Otter, C Squadron, 5th Aviation Regiment (5 Avn Regt) from the cockpit of Australian Army CH-47D Chinook A15-106. Captain Otter later noted: "6000’ AMSL (above mean sea level) taken over the Registan Desert (Reg) desert, 7 miles south of Kandahar Airfield. Texas Helo (named by USA forces) can be seen at the top of the image (mountainous area). Firing range can be seen bordering the desert. We would not generally fly at this altitude due to the Surface to Air threat and the ability of our counter measures to defeat it".
