Interview with Margaret Blair (When the war came to Australia)
Description
Margaret Blair discusses American servicemen in Australia and attitudes towards them, the resentment towards Australian women dating American servicemen and the proposal of marriage to her from Fred Blair. Soon after their marriage Fred Blair received his orders to return to America. Due to the large numbers of war brides waiting to return to America a friend of Margaret Blair arranges for them to stow away on a cargo vessel. This incident is described in detail along with the reactions when they were discovered on ship, their arrival in America and when Margaret eventually meets up with Fred. See also interview with Fred Blair whom she married during the war.
