Description

Mr Jack Pollard was a cadet reporter with the Sydney Daily Telegraph. He enlisted as an eighteen year old and describes training and conditions for young soldiers (under 19 years). He describes the Japanese shelling of Sydney; the Japanese midget submarine incursion in Sydney Harbour and the Japanese prison break at Cowra. He was a keen cricketer and describes the operation of a range of sports: football, cricket, swimming and horseracing during the war years. He also discusses the effect of the black market and Tokyo Rose.
