Uranquinty, NSW, 1944-07-01. Leading Aircraftman L. V. (Len) Waters receiving his "wings" during the graduation parade of No. 44 Course at No. 5 Service Flying Training School. Leonard Waters was the only Aboriginal pilot to serve in the RAAF. After completing his flying training he flew 95 operational sorties with No. 78 Squadron RAAF. He was eventually promoted to Warrant Officer and was discharged from the RAAF 1946-01-18. (Donor G. Waters)
