Log book of Gerard Henderson Cowan
Description
Log book relating to the First World War service of Flying Officer Gerald Henderson Cowan, 2nd Squadron, Australian Flying Corps.
This flying log book records flights that Cowan made between 1 June 1918 and 15 January 1919, and includes details such as dates, instructors, type of aircraft, and time flown. It also records the reasons for flights, including practicing turns, landings and loops, formation flight training, cross country flights, Cowan’s first solo flight on 6 July 1918, engine running, altitude testing, and practice for flying in clouds.
Gerard Henderson Cowan qualified as a pilot and flew with the Australian Flying Corps in England and France. However, he died of illness on 22 February 1919.
