Description

Studio portrait 2582 Private (Pte) Frederick James Caton and his wife, Elizabeth Caton. Pte Caton served in the 1st Australian Pioneer Battalion during the First World War. A carpenter prior to enlisting on 8 May 1916, he embarked on the Anchises on 24 August 2016. He had previously been enlisted in the Corps of Royal Engineers for 12 years. Pte Caton was killed in action on 26 October 1917 at Ypres and was buried in Belgian Battery Corner. He was 36 years of age.
