Hennessy, Harold Victor
Collection relating to NX36780 Corporal Harold Victor Hennessy, who served with the 2/13 Battalion during the Second World War. Collection includes 7 original handwritten letters dated 1941 & 1942, written by Hennessy to his family in Australia. He describes his active service in Tobruk, including disappointment at being left behind during the Australian evacuation; air support; leave in Palestine and garrison duty in Syria; and the battle of El Alemein in which he was wounded. Also included is one original handwritten letter from NX15032 (N72237) Corporal Frederick Clive Ireland, also of 2/13 Bn, to Hennessy and dated 18 November 1942. Other items include a photograph, order of service, two Christmas cards and a propoganda leaflet dropped by a German aeroplane in Tobruk, 1941.
