Description
Laayoune, Western Sahara. Distant view of buildings utilised by the headquarters of MINURSO (United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara). In the centre are the white containers making up the Swiss Medical Unit's (SMU's) compound. The brown buildings on the right were occupied by both the civilian and the military UN staff in the Headquarters. On the left can be seen accommodation that was originally constructed for UN personnel, but was never made available to them by local authorities. In the background are two Moroccan Tropospheric Scatter Antennas which were not operative, and two radio masts.
