Gir-i-pit region, northern Iraq. 1991-06. Warrant Officer Class One Wayne Langford checks an IV drip whilst Lance Corporal Mark Campbell (center) examines the patient’s heart rate at a roadside clinic for Kurdish refugees fleeing Iraqi forces in the wake of the Gulf War. Four Australian teams of five personnel, each equipped with a Landrover and trailer, travelled in excess of 150 kilometres from the base camp each day providing humanitarian assistance to refugees located both roadside and in destroyed villages. Approximately 60 to 100 patients were treated each day. The Australian Service Contingent provided humanitarian aid as part of Operation Habitat (Australia's contribution to the multinational response known as Operation Provide Comfort). One of a series of photographs taken by Major Jon Hodge.
