Oral history interview with Captain Arron Kinleyside of the Australian Army, a Military Observer with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) attached to Observer Group Golan – Alpha (OGG-A) in 2019-20. Interview with Dr Aaron Pegram of the Australian War Memorial at Observation Post 55 (OP55) in the Israeli-occupied Golan region, 4 November 2019. Topics include: growing up in Mildura in Victoria, family military history, university study and direct entry officer, Royal Military College Duntroon, Royal Australian Electrical Mechanical Engineers (RAEME), 8/12 Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, logistics officer for the Australian Army Aboriginal Community Assistance Program (2014) and subsequently 1st Brigade Headquarters in Adelaide (2015). Deployment to Iraq (Operation Okra/TAJI-4, 2016-17) as US Contact Liaison Officer and Logistics Operations officer, both Lebanon and Israel as a United Nations Military Observer (2018-19). Personal and professional training ahead of deployment, overview to ceasefire agreements between Israel, Syria, Southern Lebanon & Egypt, role and mission objectives of UNDOF and UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon). Experiences in southern Lebanon as UNMO with the Observer Group-Lebanon (OG-L, Nov 18-May 19), subsequent experiences at OP55 in Israeli-occupied Golan with OGG-A. Thoughts on the Australian War Memorial and future displays.
