Oral history interview with Squadron Leader Josh Buggy of the Royal Australian Air Force and Liaison Officer with the Multinational Force and Observer group (MFO) in the Arab Republic of Egypt in 2019. Interview by Dr Aaron Pegram of the Australian War Memorial at ‘The Cove’- the Australian contingent quarters at South Camp, Sharm-El-Sheikh, Arab Republic of Egypt, 7 November 2019. Topics include: family military history and growing up in Canberra ACT, Sale VIC, Tindle NT and Sydney NSW, university study, travel to the UK, enlisting in the RAAF as a Logistics Officer, overview to roles and responsibilities in logistics, postings, deployment to Timor Leste (2012) as J43 Director of Logistics Operations and lessons learnt, learning about MFO and subsequent deployment (2019), understanding of MFO mission, Liaison Officer role and how it relates to MFO mission, working between the MFO and the Egyptian Liaison Agency with International Organizations (LAIO) and reference to the Israeli counterpart, the Israeli Cooperation Unit (ICU), leadership role within the Australian contingent on top of MFO role, lessons learnt from MFO deployment, keeping in contact with home and maintaining ties with wife and children, plans after returning home, thoughts on the Australian War Memorial and future displays.
