Description

Informal group portrait of officials pictured at an inspection of the newly completed Conservation Annex on Callan Street in Mitchell in 1979, visible in the background. Now called Treloar A, the building was constructed by the National Capital Development Commission (NCDC) and then transferred to the AWM. Designed by noted Canberra architect Enrico Taglietti, it was the first of the Memorial's buildings to be constructed in Mitchell. It housed dedicated conservation labs and collection storage, as it does today. Identified in the image are (left to right): Memorial Director Noel Flanagan; unidentified (at rear, with beard); Sir William (Bill) Keys, President of the RSL; unidentified (wearing glasses); Tony Powell, NCDC Commissioner; probably Dr Anton Bos, head of conservation at the AWM (far right of group).
