Description

Rear view of a Wolf 5-500 Mine Protected Vehicle (MPV) with its rear doors open. The Wolf was a variant of the South African Casspir Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle. The Wolfs were leased from the South African Defence Force (SADF) by the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) and were used by Australian soldiers attached to Mine Clearance Training Units (MCTU). This Wolf had previously been used by Australians with the United Nations Transition Assistance Group (UNTAG) in Namibia in 1989 and still had UNTAG initials painted on its bonnet. Note the V shaped armour-plated body which was designed to deflect the blast from exploding land mines away from the crew and passenger compartments.
