Informal portrait of Lieutenant Ian Thomas Roy Treloar, HMAS Sydney. From Surrey Hills, Victoria, Treloar began serving in the Royal Australian Navy in 1933. From 1937, he was seconded to the Royal Navy for training, only returning to Australia after the declaration of the Second World War. Lt Treloar was serving aboard HMAS Sydney II when, on 20 November 1941, all 645 personnel were lost following an engagement with the German cruiser Kormoran off the coast of Western Australia. He was 22 years old.
