Description
Photographs relating to the First World War service of 1308 Driver Rupert Henry Campbell, 1st Australian Light Horse Battalion Machine Gun Section.
Campbell sent these 23 photographs home to his family in Australia during his service between 1915 and 1918. They were kept by his sister Clarice "Clare" Linda Palm Campbell, who later served in the Women’s Auxiliary Australian Air Force during the Second World War. The photographs show the Egyptian and Palestinian landscapes that Campbell served in with the 1st Australian Light Horse Battalion, portraits of Campbell and fellow soldiers, cemeteries at Port Said and Rafah, aircraft, and a large sports meeting in Palestine. [Includes envelope].
