Description
Hampshire, England. 1945-09-23. The decks of the Andes were lined with Australian and New Zealand airmen as the ship pulled away from the wharf. They were part of the big drafts of RAAF and New Zealand airmen who left by the HMT Andes and returned to the Dominions via the Suez Canal. On the ship were nearly 1,000 Australians and about 1,500 New Zealanders, mostly air crew who have operated over Europe, the Atlantic, Italy and the Middle East.
