Description
An M113A1 Armoured Personnel Carrier, (APC), call sign three three (33) of A Squadron, 3 Cavalry Regiment, Royal Australian Armoured Corps (RAAC), burning after being hit by a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG). The RPG had been fired at the vehicle by a Viet Cong (VC) patrol on the southern outskirts of Ba Ria just prior to the start of Operation Pinnaroo. The blast had blown the driver of the APC, Lance-Corporal Paul ("Pommie") Atkinson, out of his compartment, severely wounding him in the process. The APC's commander was Sergeant John "Fogs" Fogarty and the operator was Gary Croydon who was unhurt.
